This book is about a boy named Luke. He is an illegal third child.There is a type of law that no women can have more than 2 children.Supposivly if there are more than 2 children in one family other people will go hungry because that family is having too many kids.That is just wrong because when Luke meets a girl named Jen she tells him all the truth about the Population Police that is making all of these crazy laws.Jen is a third child too, she is the daughter of a man who works with the Population Police.He thinks that it is wrong what they are doing and he has betrayed the Population Police by having Jen.  Jen had the idea of having a rally so that all the third children of the world could be free.She ended up getting shot by the Population Police and so did all the other kids that were with her.  Jen was the leader of the rally she even made a chat room for the third children that she knew , the password was freedom.  Luke found out that Jen was killed when he went to go see her house , he screamed her name and tried to turn off the alarm that was set off when he came into the house.The alarm went right to Jen's dad , he came right away and noticed that Luke was another one of Jen's third child friends.Luke was stunned by the news that Jen got shot.He was about to shoot himself and Jen's dad.Then the Population Police was notified that someone had gone into the chat room in that house , they came right away.Luke had to hide and when he finally got out he knew that he was in more danger than ever before.So Jen's dad asked him if he wanted to get a fake I.D. Luke couldn't resist the offer so he said that he wanted it.So the next day Jen's dad came over to his house and gave him a fake I.D. of a boy named Lee Grant.He now had to go to a new school and start a new life.
